Baby Audrey Gifts

My cousin and his wife were just blessed with the most beautiful little girl named Audrey!  I was unable to attend her baby shower, which worked well for my baby gift-making procrastination.  With her birth quickly approaching I had to finish up her gift pronto.

After my last round of baby burp cloths went over so well I decided to make some more.  The baby's nursery is pink animal themed; I found the perfect fabric at Joann's!

I've made baby burp cloths before, here are the original instructions.  This time I bought the tri-fold cloth diapers with the thicker middle section; which worked out better for providing more surface area.

Step 1 was to wash the diapers and the decorative fabric; making it nice and preshrunk.
Step 2 was to iron the cloth diapers and fabric.

**Sidenote** I love the location of my new sewing study, I realized that I could easily turn the TV so that I could view it from there.  The Rescuers came up on Netflix and made a great background movie to my ironing and sewing.

Step 3 was to cut strips of my decorative fabric in the size of the middle panel of the diaper.  I folded all of the edges in and pined them in place.  Then I sewed along the edge of the decorative fabric.

I chose to use a decorative flower/star stitch.  It turned out super cute!

And now my cousin has 5 special burp-cloths to help making cleaning up after baby more enjoyable!

Up next for my homemade gift collection were two adorable knitted animals.  The knitting instructions came from the book Itty Bitty Nursery.  You can see some of the other baby gifts I've made in the past from the same book here.  I chose to make a mouse and a bear.

I love the way the mouse's limbs are loose and floppy, super fun for posing.

Then I knitted this sweet bear.  The instructions for both animals called for poly pellets to help as weights, but I was afraid these could come out and be a choking hazard; so I left them out.

The bear was called grumpy bear in the book, but I decided to give the bear a sweet smile so it doesn't look so grumpy.

It took me quite a while to complete all of my homemade gifts, but they were totally worth it!

In addition to the homemade gifts I also purchased a super cute little sun dress & onsie outfit and sun hat.
After wrapping up all the baby gifts I made some chicken tortilla soup for the new parents for dinner.  This was my plan, so that I would have an excellent reason to come visit them and steal some sweet baby snuggle time with 5 day old Audrey!

I think I could get used to this: sitting in a rocking chair holding a precious little baby.

  1. Wow, I can't believe she was ever that tiny! She seems so huge now compared to that picture!

I apologize for a lot of missing pictures, especially in older posts. I was using PhotoBucket to host my pictures, but they've changed their rules and no longer allow links to them.
I will be re-uploading the pictures, but it may take some time...
