He Is Risen Burlap Banner

It is very important to remember why we get together and celebrate Easter.  All the bunny rabbits and eggs can become quite distracting, so I decided to create a banner to remind everyone.  Every year in church the pastor will say He is risen, and the congregation replies, He is risen indeed!  I just love that moment when we all proclaim it, and it echos in my head every time I see this banner.

I started with half a yard of pale burlap.  Using a stencil cut out of cardboard I cut out 9 banner pieces.  Then Ben sweetly hand drew and cut out the letters on stiff paper.  You could easily print out the letters in any font you like and then cut them out, make sure to use card stock or another stiff paper.  Then I put a little bit of blue acrylic paint on a piece of scrap wax paper, dabbed my sponge pouncer in it and pounced my stencil!  I was able to hold it still, but if you have shaky hands I advise you to use some painters tape to hold it in place.

Then lift it off and ta-da it is done.  The nice thing about stenciling burlap is that mistakes are forgiven due to the roughness of the material.

I laid it out on the grass to dry.

When it was dry I punched holes in the corner with my hole puncher and strung it up on twine.  I think it made quite the statement in the family room.

Did you do something special to remind guests of the reason we were celebrating Easter?

Missing Photos

I apologize for a lot of missing pictures, especially in older posts. I was using PhotoBucket to host my pictures, but they've changed their rules and no longer allow links to them.
I will be re-uploading the pictures, but it may take some time...
